Choose Love

A long time ago, when the distant memory of sadness

Threatened to overwhelm, engulf and confine,

This creative, generous soul saved my broken brain.

A man who understood the power of Springsteen,

The genius of Elton John, fragility of Coldplay.

We were bound to be allies, defenders, friends.

Standing in his eclectic shed of dreams,

Surrounded by memorabilia of his incredible life,

He shares a simple note, pinned to the wall, written by his Mum.

I feel truly honoured to be present in this precious moment.

This brutal condition is not a gift you ever wished to own,

Yet I embrace the unexpected jewels it has bestowed upon me.

If ever the demanding days seem dark and unending

I shall remember this tiny fragment in time forever,

When all that mattered was our voices, just singing.

Just for one day..
